"...ATTENTION BOWLERS: We are happy to announce the Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles tournament will be held at Copperfield Bowl on July 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th of 2017. Keep an eye out for the tournament flier which will be posted on this page at the first of the year. Hope to see everyone again next year!"

Houston's Bowl on Bellaire, formerly known as Palace Lanes, was suddenly closed Friday afternoon. According to a notice on the building's front door, the issue is a "delinquency of rent" to the building's landlord. 

Bowl on Bellaire owner David Jay purchased the Palace Lanes business from Tropicana Inc. a little more than a year ago. 

Among leagues, local events, and tournaments, The Bob, is scheduled host two notable tournaments in 2017: the doubles and singles portion of the Texas USBC State Open Tournament in the spring  and the PBA/PWBA XtraFrame Striking Against Breast CancerMixed Doubles, known to many as 'The Luci,' in July. 

First opened across the street from Rice Stadium in the 1940s, the center burned down, then opened with 28 lanes in its present location in 1955.

Update: The Texas State doubles and singles has been moved to Copperfield Bowl, according to TexasBowling.com.

Bill O'Neill and Shannon O'Keefe this summer teamed to win The Luci for the second straight year.

Update: The Houston Chronicle in this story reported that the center is in a "prime area for redevelopment. The Alexan Southside Place midrise apartment complex by Trammell Crow Co. is going up next door on the former site of the Blair House, a 50-plus year old complex that was home to many elderly residents before being torn down last year."

And Greg Stock posted on Facebook that "Gary James, one of our PSO, based out of Copperfield Bowl stated the land alone is worth over $7 million.
That puts the pieces of this puzzle together! With all the new commercial development that has occurred in the area, it's a matter of time before we officially say goodbye to Palace Bowl on Bellaire."
