Madison Area USBC taking applications for manager through July 7, aiming to have new leader in place by Aug. 1 start

The new Madison Area USBC officially starts on Aug. 1 and on Friday it officially began the process of selecting its new leader.

I detailed last month’s MAUSBC organization meeting in this story. MAUSBC includes the Madison Bowling AssociationMadison Women’s Bowling Association, Madison Youth Bowling Association and Southwest Wisconsin Women’s Bowling Association, MBA took over the former Southwest Wisconsin Bowling Association a few years ago, which helped lead to the SWWI WBA deciding to merge into the MAUSBC.

Current MBA Manager Bill Dennis is considered the favorite for the job, and said in a message Friday morning that he will apply.

MAUSBC board member Mary Conklin sent me the manager selection process in an email Thursday night.

The new MAUSBC Board of Directors met June 19 in the new MAUSBC office at 4710 E Broadway and set up four committees:  Finance, Strategic Planning, Tournaments, and Awards/Recognition.

But its first priority is hiring a manager. And as a newly merged association, a formal hiring process is required, Conklin said.

The hiring committee is led by President Phil Dowling, and includes board members Karine Aslakson and Conklin, who is the person to contact with any questions regarding the application process. Conklin can be reached at Village Lanes at 608-222-7361.

Officially, the manager “is responsible for overseeing the operations of a 501(c) (3) nonprofit association, providing administrative support and the coordination of services necessary to comply with USBC bylaws and policies and may require working evenings and weekends. Duties include processing memberships, conducting tournaments, and organizing and retaining records and financials.”

The job was posted Friday on websites, social media, and all MAUSBC bowling centers. Here is an example at the MWBA site.

July 7 is the application deadline, with applications to be emailed to [email protected]. Interviews are scheduled for July 10-20. The committee is expected to recommend a candidate to the Board of Directors on July 24, with the board to vote that night and an offer made to the candidate on July 25.

Meeting that schedule would have the candidate in place for the start of MAUSBC on Aug. 1.

Conklin called it a “very aggressive timeline, but something we have to do quickly to be ready for the fall bowling season.”

Attached to the bottom of this story are PDFs of the application and full job description.

Conklin also said MAUSBC is actively looking for people to work on the committees who are not board members.
