PBA Tour champion DeeRonn Booker announced Wednesday that he has BPDCN, a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.

Booker announced it in this Facebook post:
“I’ll keep this short.
A week ago I was diagnosed with BPDCN a rare, and aggressive form of leukemia. I’m never one to share bad news over social media, but I felt like this was important. I have a long road to recovery, but I’m going to beat this. I appreciate everyone’s support, and I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated on my progress. Chemo starts today and I’ll be monitored here in the hospital for the next month.
As part of this process I will need a Bone Marrow Transplant to truly recover. My family is here to answer the call but for everyone who would like to help, please consider joining the National Bone Marrow Registry. The process is very simple and involves a mail kit and a swab of the cheek.”

I checked into the registry and you must be 18 to 35 years old to join the registry: “Studies show that patients receiving blood stem cells from younger donors have a better long-term survival rate. The safety of both the patient and donor is our biggest priority.”

Booker’s sister Kaprice Booker started a GoFundMe for DeeRonn that already is more than halfway to the goal of $20,000.

It states:
“My brother, DeeRonn Booker, has always been a source of strength and inspiration in my life. Recently, DeeRonn was diagnosed with leukemia, specifically blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm—a rare and aggressive cancer. This diagnosis has brought unexpected challenges for him and our family.
The funds raised through this campaign will help cover ongoing chemotherapy, access to specialized drugs for DeeRonn’s particular cancer, and travel opportunities to participate in distant clinical trials and case studies. They will also help with medical bills, co-pays, and future financial challenges related to the disease. Your support will make a real difference in DeeRonn’s ability to focus on his recovery and access the care he needs.
DeeRonn has dedicated his heart, soul, and countless years to the sport of bowling. Booker won the 2024 USBC Masters, and an Eagle in doubles with Mark Curtis Jr. at the 2023 USBC Open Championships.
