Webber International swept the team titles and Geoffrey Young of Wichita State and Georgia Drewes of Newman took the individual titles Saturday at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships and Intercollegiate Singles Championships.

The competition will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network in shows at 9 p.m. on the four May Fridays — 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Those TV broadcasts mean no video is available at BowlTV of Saturday's competition at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.

The Webber men defeated 10-time champion Wichita State, 2.5-0.5, and the Webber women beat Midland, 2-0, at Sun Valley Lanes, USBC reported in this news release.

The only other schools to sweep both the men's and women's titles in the same year are Wichita State, which accomplished that feat in 2009 and 1994, and Arizona State, which did it in 1981, USBC said.

"People talk about a dream come true and this is it," Webber men's coach Del Warren said in the release. "We knew we had the depth and the talent for this to happen, but what are the odds of it actually happening for both teams?"

"I think this is validation of all the hard work and dedication our players have put in this season," Webber International women's coach Randy Stoughton said in the release. "Every one of our players could have bowled somewhere else, but they came here because we created an environment to win national championships."

More details are in the release.

Wichita State's Erik Gulbrandson and Midland's Erin McCarthy were named tournament MVPs.

The men's all-tournament team also included Jacob Kent of Robert Morris-Illinois, Kyle Anderson of St. Ambrose, Brad Miller of Lindenwood, and Gary Faulkner of Webber.

The women's all tournament team also included Diana Zavjalova of Webber International, Nicole Parkhurst of Stephen F. Austin, Brandi Branka of McKendree, and Amanda Greene of Lindenwood.

In the singles, Young defeated Midland's Joe Steiner, 245-191, while Drewes beat Nebraska's Elise Bolton, 204-147, USBC reported in this news release.

"This is unbelievable because not in a million years did I think singles would be on TV, and I would be the one winning it all," Young said in the release. "I was pretty nervous at first, but I calmed down and focused on what I needed to do."

"I was more nervous when I was on the practice lanes, and I actually thought I would be sickly nervous when I got on the lanes, but it wasn't too bad," Drewes said in the release. "My heart was beating pretty fast, but I just kept to my routine. Since I'm a senior, I just hope this gives Newman a little recruiting boost in the future."

Bolton tossed eight strikes en route to a 221-170 win against Katie Zwiefelhofer of UW-Whitewater.

More details are in the release.
