The 11th Frame: Webb takes opening round lead in 2012 Senior Tour debut

Busy bowling center proprietor Wayne Webb skipped the first two stops of the 2012 PBA Senior Tour, but made a smashing debut in the third stop on Monday: taking the opening round lead with an average just above 250, PBA reported.

The Hall of Famer totaled 2,007 on games of 196, 278, 238, 255, 249, 299, 204 and 288 in the PBA Senior Mooresville Classic presented by Columbia at George Pappas Victory Lanes, according to this PBA news release.

“This was a block where I had to make a lot of adjustments both playing the lane and with my equipment,” Webb said in the release. “After the first game I realized I had to get a more aggressive ball and went with the most aggressive hooking ball I have. That worked for the next five games then after the seventh game I changed back to a much less aggressive ball and finished with 288. It was one of those blocks where I made the right adjustments at exactly the right time. It doesn’t always work that way.”

Mike Henry is second, 36 pins behind, and Bob Learn Jr. is third, another five pins back.

After another 8-game qualifying round on Tuesday, the top 32 advance to bracket match play on Wednesday. The top eight qualifers get two byes and ninth through 16th get one bye.

After the first round, Madison Bowling Association Hall of Famer Joel Carlson of Omaha, Neb., was 12th at 1,806, Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha was 23rd at 1,759, and Dale Traber of Cedarburg was 44th at 1,669.
