Lennie Boresch Jr. got back on top Tuesday by averaging 250.5 to take the first round lead in the PBA Senior Dayton Classic presented by Roto Grip.
Boresch won his Senior Tour debut last month, then flew directly to Texas to be inducted into the United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame before skipping the second Senior Tour tournament of the season.
He returned with a 46th place finish in the third stop before heading to Dayton, where he rolled games of 226, 235, 289, 257, 254, 230, 245 and 268 for a 2,004 total in the first round, PBA reported.
“I was 23rd after the first round and probably should have changed to another ball for the second round,” the Kenosha right-hander said of his 46th place finish in this PBA news release. "I guess you could say I made some rookie mistakes and learned not to fall in love with the same ball. Now I just need to learn from that experience.”
Boresch holds a 66-pin lead over Senior Dayton Classic defending champion Hugh Miller (1,938), with last week’s Senior Mooresville Classic winner Bob Learn Jr. another seven pins back.
Bo Goergen, who is scheduled to bowl team event at the USBC Open Championships in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday at 2:30 p.m., is fifth at 1,927.
Dale Traber of Cedarburg is ninth at 1,925.
The 114 bowlers will bowl another eight-game qualifying round Wednesday, with the top 32 advancing to match play on Thursday and ultimately the top four bowling in a stepladder finals on Thursday night.
PBA's Xtra Frame webcasting service is covering the tournament live.
