The PBA Regional Players Championship once drew well above 200 entries, but like most regionals entries are down for the RPC.
This weekend's PBA RPC-East in Columbus, Ohio drew just 97 entries, though to be fair it's just one of two RPCs where there was just one back in those higher entry years.
The field remains strong, however, with numerous top regional players and former Tour players.
One of the latter — lefty Jason Lundquist of Englewood, Ohio — led Saturday's qualifying with a 1,929 total on games of 243, 254, 237, 278, 254, 236, 256 and 171, PBA reported in this news release.
Lundquist leads fellow lefty Riga Kalfas by 52 pins, with Hall of Famer Wayne Webb another seven pins back in third.
Midwest Region players who advanced were Steven Taylor in seventh at 1,830, Anthony LaCaze in 10th at 1,823, and Michael Steil in 25th at 1,746.
With the lower entries, PBA changed the format to the top 32 being the casher's round of four games. The top 16 advance to the next round of three games, the top eight advance to the next round of two games, and the top four advance (on total pinfall) to bowl one game.
