Senior bowlers from across the globe will descend on Las Vegas in December for a new tournament hosted by Red Rock Resort that offers competition in team, doubles, singles and masters.
The 2012 International Senior Open Dec. 2-8 is open to all senior bowlers currently in good standing with the USBC and World Tenpin Bowling Association member federations.
The tournament features two age divisions: 50-60 and 61-plus for men, and 45-55 and 56-plus for women. In doubles and team, the youngest player determines the division.
Singles and doubles will be three games with re-entries allowed
Team will bowl a total of six games — three games each day on two different lane conditions. Re-entries will be allowed. Teams will consist of four players and may be all men, all women or mixed.
The 12-game totals — singles, doubles and team combined — determine the qualifiers for masters round-robin match play, with the number in each age division based on entries but a minimum of six.
Garber said he is “pleased with the early response and inquiries from around the world, especially Japan and Australia.”
“I have shaped it similar to the Tournament of Americas,” he said. “It’s a competition against other countries, but also a mini-vacation.”
Each doubles and 4-person team can include one professional member or national pro title holder.
Bowlers do not need permission of their host country’s national governing body to enter, and can make up their owns teams with multiple teams able to enter from any country, Garber said.
The schedule also includes a coaching clinic by USBC Hall of Famer Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, and product demonstrations by Brunswick, Ebonite and Storm.
There also will be optional sweepers.
A detailed schedule and rules is in the attached PDF.
The $300 individual entry fee ($350 starting Nov. 1) covers one entry into singles, doubles, team and the masters. Re-entries for singles and doubles are $50 per person.
