The 11th Frame: Non-member A.J. Johnson, Pete Weber win PBA Regionals at Fairview Heights, Ill.

Impressive young non-member A.J. Johnson and legendary Hall of Famer Pete Weber won PBA Regionals at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill. over the weekend.

While the stepladder scores weren’t posted by PBA, Johnson defeated Tom Hess in the title match to win the PBA Midwest Region St. Clair Bowl Open Sponsored By Allstate and Weber topped Greg Shields to win the PBA Midwest Region St. Clair Bowl Senior Open Sponsored By Allstate.

Both tournaments were bowled on the Chameleon pattern.

With his first PBA title, Johnson earned $2,500 for his SMART fund, while Hess won $1,300 for second.

There were 31 entries and 10 bowlers made the cut and cashed with 10th place after qualifying at 1,611 for eight games.

Weber earned $1,600 for his first PBA50 Regional title and 84th PBA title overall, while Shields $1,000.

Weber's 84 PBA titles include 36 PBA Tour titles, 47 PBA Regional titles (the record), and one PBA Senior Regional title. Walter Ray Williams Jr. leads the PBA's all-time title list with 85 titles: 47 PBA Tour (the record), four PBA Senior Tour, 31  PBA Regional titles, and three PBA Senior Regional.

There were 24 senior entries and eight bowlers made the cut and cashed with eighth place after qualifying at 1,589 for eight games. There also were two Super Senior checks with 1,516 getting the last one.

Dale Traber of Cedarburg was third for $750. James Graefe of Cedarburg was fourth for $600. And Darryl Traber of Waterford was eighth for $500.
