In the past two U.S. Opens, 41 of 108 players averaged 200 or better on flat pattern day, which came when it was 39 feet in both the first round in 2024 and in the third round in 2023. On Wednesday, a 37-foot flat pattern wasn’t quite as brutal, as 54 of the 108 players averaged 200 or better at Royal Pin Woodland in Indianapolis, also the host the prior two years.
