Writing up a handicap tournament in Minnesota goes beyond my usual policy, but this tournament benefits a worthy charity, is at a center I’ve enjoyed competing at in the past, and the request came from a subscriber, so I "violated" my policy.

The SunOpta Sweeper Bowl for the Food Shelf on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. is at Garden Center Lanes in Alexandria, Minnesota.

The entry fee is $60 and first is $1,000, based on 48 entries. The cashing ratio is 1-in-4. Brackets and side pots will be available.

The format is six games of qualifying, with the top advancing to single elimination match play until three remain who will bowl a stepladder finals.

Handicap is 80 percent based on 220, with bowlers using their 2014-15 average of 21 games or more.

A portion of the entry fee will be donated to the food shelf, and the Alexandria Area USBC Bowling Association will match food shelf donations up to $500.
