Jason Belmonte made his first cut and Brandon Novak his third straight cut on Thursday at GEICO World Series of Bowling VIII at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. Belmonte, the reigning 3-time PBA Player of the Year who is seeking his first PBA Tour title this year, opened qualifying in the PBA Scorpion Championship presented by Reno Tahoe USA with a 189 game, then fired games of 269, 236, 214, 247, 235, 289 and 245 to total 1,924 (240.5 average) and lead the competition on Thursday.
