In July 2015 in El Paso, Ryan Zagar came one strike from winning the singles Eagle at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. That story was especially noteworthy because it was Zagar’s first trip to the Open Championships and a first-timer winning is a rare and amazing accomplishment — I do not know the last Eagle won by an Open Championships rookie, especially outside of the team event.
