Billy Gasn got to watch his son Matt Gasn carve out one of the most accomplished youth bowling careers ever, including finishing second in Junior Gold to Marshall Kent in arguably the greatest match in youth bowling history, medaling for Junior Team USA, and teaming with Kent and others to win a college title with Robert Morris University.

Matt Gasn, the winner of the 2014 11thFrame.com Open, later took a job with Ebonite and I believe has joined the PBA to take a shot at the PBA Tour.

Billy Gasn is giving back to the sport that has given his family so much via the Mid-Atlantic Youth Tour.

Gasn said in a message exchange that the MAYT would be using 2017-18 NCAA and 2018 Junior Gold lane patterns, with 1-in-4 payouts and every bowler who cashes guaranteed a minimum of $50 in scholarship funds on a $35/$40 entry.

“I’ve run three events already and have actually paid better than 1:4 in two of them,” he said.

His MAYT Team Challenge last year drew 31 5-player teams from five states and Washington DC and paid out $10,000. In this year’s tournament on Sept. 23, he expects 35 teams from eight states and Washington DC with a prize fund of more than $20,000, which he believes makes it the biggest 1-day youth event in the country.

“It’s a college tournament simulation,” Gasn said. “All Baker games and then match play. I also pay that at 1:3.”

He also runs a monthly Friday night adult sweeper and a youth doubles the day before the team event. PDFs for all of the events are attached to the bottom of this story.

“Doing all this to give back to bowling for all the success, experience and opportunities our family has been fortunate to experience because of Matt’s bowling. I take ZERO money from all of this. It actually costs me money. I do however take money from entries — $5 that goes to my team tournament prize fund.”
