Jason Belmonte took a first step toward a happy retirement on Friday at Victory Lanes in Mooresville, N.C. Not necessarily in the short term, but for sure in the long term. Belmonte totaled 1,777 for eight games to take a 5-pin lead over close friend and fellow PBA superstar Bill O’Neill after Friday’s first round of the 2019 U.S. Open on a brutally difficult flat lane pattern.
