2021 Plastic Classic set for day after Thanksgiving at Schwoegler's Sugar River Lanes

The 2021 Plastic Classic is set for its traditional day after Thanksgiving — Nov. 26 this year — at Schwoegler’s Sugar River Lanes, 807 River St. in Belleville, tournament operator Jim Wipperfurth announced.

Selfishly, the best news is that the competition will start at 4 p.m. instead of the 11 a.m. it typically was, which means my workday will be over and I can compete. Check-in starts at 3 p.m.

The tournament restricts bowlers to plastic — actually polyester — balls of the type that were state of the art back in the 1970s, but now are mostly used for spare balls. Questions on whether a ball is eligible can be sent to wippsproshop@gmail.com.

Kegel helped design the 28-foot house shot lane pattern that is used for the tournament.

The entry fee is $45 and first will be $500 based on 48 entries, with a 1-in-5 cashing ratio. Youth bowlers can compete and will be paid in SMART funds.

The format is four games of qualifying, with the top eight advancing to bracket matches. Handicap is 80 percent of 220 with a maximum of 40 pins per game.

To sign up, text or call 608-772-5391.

The tournament is sponsored by Sugar River Pro Shop.
