Sean Rash will never forget the day his back problems began.

In the week after Thanksgiving, he had radiofrequency ablation under fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance done on the right side of his back. Essentially the procedure burns off the nerves, though it can take two to three weeks after the procedure before the ablated nerves stop sending pain signals. And the nerves can grow back, so it’s not necessarily permanent relief.
