The 2025 Junior Hall of Fame Tournament Sunday at Sussex Bowl in Sussex awarded $15,100 in SMART scholarship funds, tournament founder and director Shannon Labinski announced in this Facebook post.
The tournament now has awarded $170,520 in SMART scholarship funding since it began in 2007.
Phil Brylow and $2 Phil - Ten On The Deck Productions webcasted the competition, which featured special guests A.J. Johnson of MOTIV and Liz Johnson of Storm.
Labinski thanked the Hall of Fame members and adult celebrities for donating their time to make the event possible, led by Betsy Bear-Hoff, and main sponsors 900 Global, H5G BRANDS, Sussex Bowl, Milwaukee Area USBC & Hall of Fame, and the Waukesha USBC.
Labinski also thanked the businesses who donated to the record-setting online auction, led by Rochelle Roventini, and everyone who purchased auction items and raffle tickets. (The online auction is the primary source for the SMART scholarship funding, along with the sponsors.)
She also thanked Grebe's Bakery for taking care of the adult bowlers and staff.
A tournament highlight was the first 5-player Baker format perfect game with a change in format for this year. It was achieved during the fifth game of qualifying in the Handicap Division by Jackson Reeder (1st-6th frames), Bristol Johnson (2nd-7th), Jacob Young (3rd-8th), Chase Johnson (4th-9th) and adult celebrity Vance Vetter (5th-10th). The team earned $100.
The format and venue changed for the 19th edition of the tournament.
With Bowlero Wauwatosa closing its 24-lane side, reducing the historic center to 48 lanes, and dramatically hiking lineage fees, Labinski searched for a different center and ended up at Cassie and Stephen Hoehnen’s Sussex Bowl, which is not charging lineage for the tournament.
Sussex has 16 lanes, so the move also necessitated changes in the format.
Youth players entered as 4-player teams — it was 2-player teams in the past — paired with a Hall of Famer or celebrity, and all competition was Baker format, instead of traditional games during qualifying.
There still were scratch and handicap divisions and 128 players.
The scratch format included 15 match play Baker games (based on 16 teams), with the top six teams advancing to a 2-game position round match.
The handicap format included 10 Baker games without match play, and the top six teams advancing to two more Baker games.
Labinski talked about the tournament and the changes in the Bowling With the Fef podcast on Sept. 22. That included noting the theme of “The comeback is greater than the setback,” which also appears on tournament shirts.
More information is available at the event’s Facebook page and the event's website.
The 20th annual Junior Hall of Fame Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 8, 2025 at Sussex Bowl.
The Junior Hall of Fame Tournament is a PBA Junior Affiliate Tournament.
