PBA Tour champion Jeff Carter owns a league bowling record that still makes me shake my head in wonder: his 261.74 average for the 2000-01 season.
Arguably the most impressive facet of the record is that his league at Kingpin Lanes in Springfield, Illinois alternated between first and second shift, with no re-oil on the weeks it was on the second shift.
If anyone was ever going to threaten his record, I figured it would be a talented left-hander known for big scores like A.J. Rice.
