If the 2014 United States Bowling Congress Masters were a “normal” major tournament, the top storyline would be obvious: defending champion and reigning PBA Player of the Year Jason Belmonte on top and whether he could run away with the top seed again.
But with the Masters format of dropping qualifying pins for the double-elimination match play bracket, all of the 64 finalists start on an equal footing Friday morning.
Belmonte obviously is a storyline, just not the storyline.
