I believe that most serious bowlers know that USBC rules prohibit the sanding of a bowling ball once competition begins. Rule 18 in the 2013-14 United States Bowling Congress rulebook states this: "Altering the surface of a bowling ball by the use of abrasives while bowling in USBC competition is prohibited.
