Before this year’s United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, my experience with El Paso consisted of driving through it while I was on the PBA Tour in 1987 and 1988. But I’d heard it was a nice place and knew the crime fears were way overblown because I’d read the statistical crime rankings that show El Paso is the safest U.S. city of 500,000 population or greater.  Just don’t cross the border into Mexico.
