Matt McNiel wins Open for 2nd time

By the third game of Saturday’s qualifying, I firmly believed I’d be seeing Matt McNiel bowling for the title of this weekend’s Open at Cherry Lanes in Dubuque, Iowa. I crossed with McNiel in qualifying and after a game in the 190s to open, the Brunswick staffer switched to a MASTERMIND SCHOLAR and followed with a pair of games in the 250s. His reaction was very good and as one of 20 or so left-handers in the 156-player field I knew it wouldn’t change...
