When it comes to the lane patterns for the State Tournament, you pretty much know what you’re going to get: essentially a modified house shot, which means bring your striking shoes! Back when I first started going to the State Tournament in the late 1970s, the lane conditions were in line with the stringent gutter-to-gutter rules of the day. I remember my teammate John Wittkowske winning the all-events title with just 1,900(!) in 1984 in Eau Claire. I think our team didn’t reach...
