Nick Kruml, a Chicago area bowler who competed for UW-Whitewater, closed with games of 288 and 266 to edge out 3-time United States Bowling Congress Masters champion Jason Belmonte for the lead as Masters qualifying ended Thursday at the Orleans in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old right-hander never rolled a game under 200 as he totaled 1,260, 1,118 and 1,216 for his three 5-game qualifying blocks for a 15-game total of 3,594 (239.6 average), 16 pins more than Belmonte.
