As I said during the tournament, watching players compete on the double burn squad at the 2017 U.S. Open at Flamingo Bowl in Liverpool, New York, was both fascinating and nauseating. It was undeniably fascinating to see the athleticism required to control shots lofted 20 feet or more down the lane — athleticism never required/seen in bowling’s glory days. (I was on the PBA Tour in the late 1980s and lofted and saw players lofting, but it was much less than what is seen today....
