Update: The PBA and fans combined to take care of Josh Hyde's expenses to attend the Go Bowling! PBA 60th Anniversary Classic tournament and celebration in Indianapolis in February, organizers reported Saturday.

PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark had vowed to make sure Hyde would be able to make it after learning of the GoFundMe campaign on Friday. By the time Clark contacted the organizer the fund already was at $1,075, so the organizer asked PBA to donate $300, which it did.

That brought the total to $1,375, with $137 going to adminsitrative fees and the remainder ensuring that Hyde could make the trip to Indianapolis and also attend a PBA Regional in Fort Wayne — assuming those who donated agree, which I'm sure will be no issue.

All of this is further proof of what great people there are in bowling!

Josh Hyde has never let his disabilities get in the way of being one of the greatest bowling fans in the world.

But finances are hindering Hyde’s dreams of attending the Go Bowling! PBA 60th Anniversary Classic tournament and celebration in Indianapolis in February.

So Hyde, who writes a bowling newsletter, has started a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $1,000 so he can attend the tournament and festivities.

The GoFundMe is here and it includes this statement from Josh:
“I have loved bowling for 26 years. I started my newletter and website about PBA bowlers and bowling statistics 12 years ago. I wish to go to the 60th Anniversary PBA Championship in Indianapolis in February 2018.
I need help with the expenses because my chair has a range of 60 miles and max speed of 6 mph. That's a long, cold trip without a van or place to stay at night. I also have a passion for Cherry Pepsi.
I have not been able to attend a PBA Tournament since 2015 and the 60th Anniversary Championship will be an epic event. They will be announcing the 60 Greatest moments in PBA history and I want to be a part of this event.”

I’ve met Josh a couple of times and while it is not easy for him to have a conversation, it's worth the effort — his mind is sharp and he loves bowling.

I contributed $25 to his GoFundMe.

As a matter of policy, I do not tell anyone how to spend their money. But I will say that helping Josh is something that makes me feel good and I hope he can make it to Indianapolis.
