District 4 boys, District 9 girls win HSBC All-Star Team Challenge titles to close state high school bowling season

The District 4 (Madison area) boys/-co-ed team and District 9 (Wausau area) girls team won the titles at Saturday’s HSBC All Star Team Challenge at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes in Madison.

The event, which closes the state high school bowling season, drew 13 boys teams and 12 girls teams totaling 125 bowlers competing for $1,700 in scholarships.

The format was three traditional team games and 10 Baker format games, with the top three teams in each division advancing to stepladder finals, which featured 2-game Baker matches. The tournament was contested on the Kegel Middle Road 4239 lane pattern.

In the boys/co-ed division, District 4 led qualifying with 4,919, District 3A (Racine/Kenosha area) was second at 4,712, and District 1 (Greater Milwaukee area) third with 4,674.

In the stepladder, 1 edged 3A 386-385 and 4 then beat 1 426-379.

In the girls division, District 9 led qualifying with 4,523, District 8A (Appleton area) was second at 4,520, and District 4 was third with 4,368.

In the stepladder, 8A defeated 4 394-365 and 9 beat 8A 370-333.

Each bowler on the winning teams received $100 in scholarship funds.

Scholarships also were awarded in singles, which was based on the three traditional qualifying games, with $200 for first, $100 for second, and $50 for third.

Andrew Olson of Sun Prairie won the boys competition with 702. Steven Monson of Germantown was second with 631, and Andy Gross third at 625.

Jacquelyn Carper of Lake Geneva won the girls competition with 678. Morgan Brooks of Case was second with 639, and Allison Dempski of Marshall third with 625.
